in the mouth

It has been asserted that the mouth is the dirtiest part of the entire body..
Could it be.. true?
When I obtained a cheek sample (*Disclaimer: Not from my mouth*) and decided to investigate it, I found what seemed to be strands of tissues in different areas but no harmful organisms. I wasn't able to dye the cells or look into it deeper but planned to do so in the coming future.

Keratin

For all of you who assumed these pictures are of the outer layer of our skin, you are incorrect!
It's really our toe and finger nails.
The pictures you're looking at are the nail plates, which are the hard outer coverings of the nail. It is covering our nail bed which is the delicate area underneath the keratin which is covered in glands and capillaries. Keratin is added (nails grow) at the proximal end which is actually the only living area of the nail (but be sure to also prevent the proximal end from growing too much! I sometimes grow my toenails to the point where it looks too homologous with an eagle's talon).

brie cheese

Rumor has it that hiding among the thick mass of Brie Cheese, there dwells thousands of probiotics...
brie cheese 40X
In order to seek this rumor, I took the white coating off the cheese and decided to investigate myself..
brie cheese 100X
If looked closely at the pictures, the rough masses of dots are all.. probiotics! It turns out that while the only probiotics I witnessed were from kimchi and the capsules, there are also other types of probiotics living in cheese as well! This is the first type of cheese I saw probiotics in (as I tried looking at other brands such as swiss cheese).
